Through the Psalms
Old Testament
Even During Dark Trials God is With Us, He Never Leaves Us - (Psalm 88:13-14)

Daily Praise
But to You I have cried out, O Lord, and in the morning my prayer comes before You. Lord, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me?

Reading Notes
This is the third time the psalmist will ask a question of the Lord. Here we see the deep distress as Heman is suffering a terrible physical and emotional trial. He will ask the Lord, "Why do You hide Your face from me?" This is a common idiom referring to God not answering our prayers. Dear believer all of us can relate to this anguish, having a time of trial and feeling that God does not hear our prayers. That God has somehow turned His back on us or as the psalmist here puts it, "hid His face" from us. However, this is never the case God always hears the prayers of His children. Psalm sixty-six assures us, "But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer." However,  we have to understand that sometimes the answer is no and sometimes the answer is not now, you must bare through this trial for while longer.

Sometimes for reasons we cannot understand, God will not remove a trial, or a loss from our life. Does that mean God causes trials in our lives? Certainly not, terrible things happen because of the fallen world we live in. However, there will be times God allows us to undergo trials. And it's those times of trial, which show us and the world around us the quality of our faith. Because true faith can only be seen through trials. Moreover, Jesus Himself told us in this world we will have tribulation, which means we will have times of terrible trials. However, through the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells all believers, He will see us through, and we know that we have our peace in Him. Our joy and our strength is in knowing once this dark world passes away we will be with Him forevermore. And it's at that time when we see Jesus face to face that we will know more, understand more and experience more joy and peace than can ever be known here in this world.
