Old Testament
We Can Come Before the Lord with Our Pain and Our Fears - (Psalm 88:8-10)

Daily Praise
You have put away my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an abomination to them; I am shut up, and I cannot get out; My eye wastes away because of affliction. Lord, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You. Will You work wonders for the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise You? Selah

Reading Notes
The psalmist continues with his lament to the Lord. Notice how he is pouring out his honest feelings to God. When we talk to God, we should be honest. We should tell God, how we are hurting, what our fears really are and the pain we are really feeling. Sometimes when we speak to God, we can try to hide things. We act as if God is like one of us, someone we can hide our true emotions and thoughts from, forgetting all the while God knows us more accurately and completely than we can know ourselves. In these passages the psalmist is using metaphors to describe the pain and anguish he is feeling during these times of trial. Notice he refers to himself as dead, his friends are far away from him, and his eyes are wasting away from the tears of grief he has shed.

We are witnesses to the heart of this child of God as He is burdened by pain and tribulation. And for our own spiritual growth, we see how he is pouring all his emotions out before the Lord. However, even though the psalmist feels far from God emotionally, he knows God is always near enough to hear his cries and see his anguish. Dear believer this is so important for us to remember. We are children of God! God the Holy Spirit dwells within each of us. He not only carries out His work of sanctification to change us from the inside out, but He also comforts us, hears us when we cry out to God and helps to carry and sustain us through the trials we know will come because of the fallen world we live in. Therefore, we should rejoice in Jesus our Lord, knowing the time is short before we go home, to forever be with Jesus and spend eternity in His presence.
