Epistle of 2nd Corinthians
Bible Promises
New Testament
God Promises We Have a New Life in Christ - (2nd Corinthians 5:1,17)

Bible Promise
Your old life has ended and now everything is new in Christ.

Bible Verse
For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Reading Notes
At this time, many of the people who heard Paul speak were nomadic tent dwellers, so the metaphor of the human body as an old tent would have easily been understood by his audience. In addition the Jewish people with their history of the Tabernacle, followed by the Temple would have also clearly understood Paul's message. Here Paul is explaining to us that the bodies we now have are temporary, fragile and insecure compared to the glorified bodies we will receive when we see Jesus face to face. Paul compared our current bodies to an old tent and our glorified bodies to a new building. But even more wonderful than Paul's message of receiving new bodies when we go to heaven. Is the fact that we are, "in Christ!" Dear Christian this is one of the most profound statements regarding our redemption ever spoken.

Because of Jesus, we have salvation, security, and acceptance into God's family. Because of what Jesus did for us and our faith in Him, we have been adopted into the family of God as children of God. Moreover, we have new life because of the Holy Spirit's work in us. A life which is now full of joy, love and purpose as we serve a God who loves us so. The love and joy we have is part of being a new creation in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is because with our salvation comes the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to all who accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. And it's the Holy Spirit who prepares us for service to God through His work of sanctification. Sanctification is God's process of spiritual growth as He works with our new spirit changing our hearts and minds, thereby making us sensitive to the things of God and the promptings of the Holy Spirit, who will lead us into all righteousness, as we submit to His guidance.
