The Book of Psalms
Through the Psalms
Old Testament
Jesus Alone is Our Spring of Life and Salvation - (Psalm 87:7)

Daily Praise
Both the singers and the players on instruments say, "All my springs are in you."

Reading Notes
"All my springs are in you" was a metaphor used in the songs of worship and praise of the Temple. The primary meaning was that our salvation comes from God alone through His Messiah, who has come in the flesh. Worshipers who sang this looked forward to the time of the Messiah, the one who would take away their sins. The ending verse of this psalm continues to look forward to the Messianic Kingdom and the salvation of the Lord. And that's important for us to understand. We have to remember, that Old Testament saints were saved by faith as well and not by works, sacrifices or Temple worship. They were saved because they believed God in His promise of the Messiah to come.

God's Messiah, whom we know today, is Christ Jesus our Lord. And secondarily it's a message for the here and now. These passages carried the meaning that all joyful blessings and good in our lives comes from God. Jesus is the spring from which we get life. He alone provides a more abundant life now and eternal life in the age to come. And the Bible also tells us in a future time during the millennial kingdom when Jesus reigns from Jerusalem that a literal fountain of flowing water will come down from the Temple. Therefore, this is a fitting ending to this song as we all look forward to the time when darkness and sin will finally be judged and destroyed as we live here on this earth, with our King and Savior ruling and reigning from Jerusalem.
