The Epistle to the Ephesians
Bible Promises
New Testament
God Promises He Loves Us and Gives Us Life - (Ephesians 2:4-5)

Bible Promise
I made you alive in Jesus simply because I love you.

Bible Verse
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).

Reading Notes
As the Bible tells us, before salvation and the work of the Holy Spirit in us, we were dead in our trespasses and sins. Moreover, we have to remember, dead people cannot earn their way into heaven! Mankind cannot save themselves. It is only man's foolish pride and sin nature which causes us to believe that merit based salvation is possible. Mankind in rebellion against God builds a religion based on works and not Jesus. We do not have the ability to earn our way into heaven! If death and eternal separation from God are the penalties for every sin no matter how small, in both thought and deed; well then how many times can we die? How many sins can we really pay for, when our sins are too numerous to count? In addition, God's very word points out the fact that there is none righteous, no not one!

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Roman Christians tells us, "There is none righteous, no, not one." Therefore, we have to remember, without Jesus we are dead in our trespasses and sin. In addition, we have to understand God does not look just at our actions, He looks at the intent and motives of our heart. So if we have anger, rage, jealousy, and envy in our hearts in certain situations, then we are guilty of those sins as well. Now from mankind's perspective, we may be doomed. However, what's impossible for man is possible for God, and we have a God who loves us dearly! And He has made a way for us. God alone, without our help, has provided a way that we may spend eternity with Him. Because of His love for us, Christ stepped out of eternity and took on humanity in order that He may die for us. And by our faith, we can live through Him. Therefore God has made us alive together with Christ Jesus our Lord.
