God Promises He Will Remove Our Shame and Give Us Joy - (Isaiah 61:7)

I will give you a double portion of your inheritance in exchange for your shame.

Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs.

Reading Notes
Chapter sixty-one of Isaiah, speaks about the future glory of God's chosen people Israel. And how God in the end will bring glory to Zion to replace her exile and her shame. God long ago had promised the people of Israel if they followed Him alone He would lift them up; but unfortunately shortly after the death of Solomon the kingdom split in two and eventually the people fell into idolatry. First the northern kingdom of Israel fell, followed later by the southern kingdom of Judah. However, God's promises were not dependent on the people, but on God Himself to uphold it. Therefore, in the last days God promised He would restore the nation of Israel. And He would do so as one nation, placing her back into the family of nations. God fulfilled this promise in 1948. The Lord told us that He would restore Israel to the "family of nations" in the last days. And that immediately after her restoration Israel would become the stumbling block of all nations. In addition, shortly before the return of Christ, Israel would be abandoned by all other nations and face attack on all sides.

Dear Christian this is important to remember and understand because God told us any nation who turns their back on Israel and curses Israel, God Himself will curse. God's curses include social turmoil, national strife, economic failure, fear of attack, as well as attacks by her enemies, natural disasters, changes in weather patterns including drought, floods and other disastrous weather. Moreover, God promised that if any nation continued in their cursing of Israel, God would eventually destroy that nation. However, God also told us any nation who blesses Israel and stands by her, He would also bless even though the rest of the world is in chaos. God also told us that this period of isolation for Israel will be followed by her glorification, when Jesus returns again. In the last days just before the return of Jesus, the nation of Israel will come to faith in Christ as a whole, they will call upon the name of Christ Jesus our Lord. Dear believer this promise also applies to us, who because of our faith will live and reign with Christ forever. Our salvation can never be lost even though for a season we ourselves, may have to walk through the wilderness.
