The Book of Psalms
Through the Psalms
Old Testament
A Time When All Nations Will Be One in Christ - (Psalm 87:4-6)

Daily Praise
"I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to those who know Me; behold, O Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia: 'This one was born there.'" And of Zion it will be said, "This one and that one were born in her; and the Most High Himself shall establish her." The Lord will record, when He registers the peoples: "This one was born there." Selah

Reading Notes
In the opening verses of this section of scripture the psalmist is speaking of the two ancient super powers of the time, Egypt and Babylon. Rahab was an ancient mythological creature and in the Old Testament this represented Egypt. In addition Philistia, Tyre and Ethiopia were enemies of Israel as well. These were people who would never at the time associate themselves with Israel, let alone with the true and living God of Israel. And yet these passages say that people from these nations will be treated as if they were born in Israel. They will look to Jerusalem as their "mother city" and to Christ Jesus as their Lord.

We have to remember God's will is that all people would spend eternity with Him, and therefore God is always drawing people to Himself. And we can see here in these passages, the psalmist through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit is looking forward to the Messianic Kingdom. A time when all nations will worship Christ. A time when all nations will believe in the name of Jesus, and all nations will come to Jerusalem to pay homage to their King. And during this time all those who come will be saved by faith in Jesus, and therefore, be children of God and part of God's family. Part of the extended family of Israel, as the Apostle Paul reminds us in chapter eleven of his letter to the Roman Christians, that we the "wild olive branch" were grafted into the "natural olive bush," which is the faithful remnant of Israel.
