The Book of Psalms
Bible Promises
Old Testament
God Promises He Has Thought of Us Often - (Psalm 139:17-18)

Bible Promise
My thoughts toward you outnumber the sand on the seashore.

Bible Verse
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God How great is the sum of them. If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.

Reading Notes
This psalm was written by David and it's a psalm which speaks about the intimate knowledge God has for each and every one of us, because we are His creation. Here in these passages, David is humbled knowing that the living God of the universe thinks about Him. Moreover, He thinks about us too! And David is in awe that the thoughts of God toward us, are limitless and too numerous to count like the sands of the seashore. David is in wonder, that the living God who created all the heavens thinks about us individually, and that His thoughts toward us are thoughts of good and not evil. God tells us in His word the Bible, "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways." God also reminds us of how He thinks of us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, thoughts of peace, and not of evil." Dear believer, God thinks about us and loves us so much that He Himself, stepped out of eternity and took on humanity to pay the price, we could not afford to pay.

Jesus Christ, the Author of all creation, stepped out of eternity and took on humanity in the incarnation for one reason, and one reason alone. That is, He came to take on the punishment we deserved in order that we may spend eternity with Him! Mankind is unable to save themselves from sin, we in our fallen state are unable to reconcile ourselves back to a holy God. There is no religion of works, and no amount of man-made rituals that can earn Heaven for us. Jesus paid the price for us in order to save us from a punishment too terrible to bear. That punishment is eternal separation from God, who loves us so. Jesus saves us from an eternity spent in Hell. Those who go to Hell do so because they rebelled against God and rejected His free offer of grace through faith in Christ. Therefore, we have to remember Jesus did this for us, because His thoughts toward us, are thoughts of peace and love and not of evil! He did this because only God can do what mankind cannot do. That is to reconcile sinful humanity back to a holy God!
