Claudia (A Devout Christian Women)

Meaning
Claudia was a Roman Christian woman, possibly from Britain. She may have also been a household slave in one of the imperial households. She is only mentioned briefly in the Bible. However, traditions say Claudia was a worker for the Lord and that she was one of the primary women. Along with others, she is listed as an "honorable women" who did much to spread the Gospel of Christ. Several Bible scholars claim Claudia was the wife of a man named Pudens and that Linus a Christian man who became the Bishop of Rome was in fact their son.

There is also a legend that she was a household slave of a well known Christian woman named Pomponia. Pomponia was the wife of a man named Aulus Plautius who was a conquerer of Britain. History says that she first heard the Gospel message from them. This comes from Tacitus the Roman historian, who speaks of an inscription found in Chichester, England. The inscription claims Claudia to be of British descent. The Bible tells us she was among the "devout women" who supported and encouraged the Apostle Paul in his ministry.

"Do your utmost to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, as well as Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brethren.The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen." (1st Timothy 4:22)
