Reading Notes
It was during the early years of Josiah's reign that Zephaniah prophesied and the book of the Law was found by Hilkiah the High Priests while repairing the Temple. And after reading the book of the Law, Josiah realizing how far the people had strayed from God began instituting reforms. Josiah sought to bring the people back to the Lord and restore the Temple. The backdrop for these reforms was the transition of world power from the Assyrian to the Babylonian Empire. This was a short period of revival before the Southern Kingdom of Judah went into exile in Babylon for seventy years. Unfortunately the reforms of Josiah were too little, too late and the next three kings were evil and rebelled against God, sealing the fate of the Southern Kingdom. This passage is part of a Messianic prophecy speaking of the restoration of Israel and the return of her ultimate King Jesus Christ and the time of His reign as God's Messiah.

We have to understand that this period time we're currently living in is called the church age. It's characterized by God's grace and mercy. During this age God through the Holy Spirit calls people to Christ. The Holy Spirit is working hand in hand with the church to spread the Gospel of Christ to a lost and dying world. However, the church age is quickly coming to a close and the time of Christ's Millennial Kingdom is close at hand. Dear child of God, we mustn't forget, no one who has rejected Christ will enter His Millennial Kingdom. Therefore, the time is even more urgent and we need to be about our Father's business of spreading the good news of salvation in Christ alone, through faith alone. These passages bring hope to Christians today as we understand that we too will return and rule with Jesus. In addition, we also have His rule now in our hearts, as we accept Him as our Lord and Savior and give our lives to Him. Therefore we rejoice in our salvation because Jesus alone is mighty to save, and He is returning soon.
