Old Testament
God Will Help Us Keep Our Hearts Close To Him - (Psalm 86:10-13)

Daily Praise
For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God. Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore. For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

Reading Notes
Our God alone is Lord and He alone does wondrous and mighty works. Works like creation and His plan of redemption for mankind. And that is why all nations which our God has made will come in a time yet future and worship Christ alone. This prophecy was spoken of in the last set of verses. Moreover, as we live our lives the moral course we take is often referred to in the Bible as our "path" or the "way" of our life. And our conduct on that path of life is often spoken of as our "walk." Here David is asking God to unite his heart. In other words David is asking for help not to have a divided heart toward God. For God to help him be single-heartily loyal to the Lord and his precepts. And with that help David can walk in the light of God's truth, has it's revealed in His word the Bible. What David is doing here is a very important concept for all Christians.

David is showing his love and loyalty toward God by asking God to keep him steadfastly committed to His ways. This is why the Bible tells us David was a man after God's own heart. Because David loved the Lord and relied not on himself, but on God's help to keep him close and in fellowship with the Lord. For us today this process is called sanctification and it's a process carried out by the Holy Spirit who indwells each and every Christian. And through the process of sanctification the Holy Spirit changes us from the inside out. Changing our heart to be more sensitive to the things of God and His calling on our lives. In addition, the Holy Spirit helps us to understand and comprehend God's word as we read and study the Bible. And through this process, we unite our hearts with the heart of God because through Jesus God has delivered us from the wrath to come. Jesus has freed us from the penalty of sin which ensnares us.
