The Second Letter of Peter
Bible Promises
New Testament
God Promises He Has Prepared a New Heaven and a New Earth - (2nd Peter 3:13)

Bible Promise
You can look forward to the new heaven and earth that I have promised.

Bible Verse
Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Reading Notes
God is promising not just a new earth and heavens, but a different and better earth and heavens where righteousness dwells. The meaning of the word used for new in this passage is not just new chronologically; but new in form and substance as well. Because Jesus Himself will create it once He has removed wickedness and unrighteousness. As Christians, we often speak of heaven, however, we should speak of Jesus. Because it is with Jesus where we'll spend eternity and it is in Jesus we have our hope of eternal life. We will spend forever with our Lord and King not only during His one-thousand year millennial kingdom here on earth, but also we will usher in the new heavens and the new earth.

This will come at the end of the  millennial kingdom. A time in which Satan is loosed for a short while and leads a rebellion against God. This will be the final battle after which Satan is thrown into the Lake of Fire. It's after this final battle that Jesus will usher in the new heavens and the new earth. Those which Jesus will create after His millennial kingdom is over. Our faith is in Jesus and with that faith comes our hope in the promise of a new heaven and new earth where we will spend eternity with Jesus as our King. Therefore God has given His children this promise in order that we may grasp a hold of it as part of our guarantee of eternity to come because of our faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
