The Letter to the Colossians
Daily Bible Verse
New Testament
Put On Love - (Colossians 3:14-17)

Bible Verse
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Reading Notes
As Christians with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can learn to look beyond one another's sins and imperfections. But to learn this we have to keep our minds and hearts focussed on the eternity which awaits us, an eternity spent in the presence of Christ Jesus our Lord. Moreover, we have to concern ourselves with the spiritual condition of those around us who do not know Jesus. And we do so by sharing the good news of salvation through faith alone in Christ alone. Along with our salvation God has given to us a supernatural bond of affection, which exists between believers. This bond of affection brings together the body of Christ, which is the church, helping us to work together to further the Gospel and help those in need. And as we come together as one body, edifying each other with the teaching of God's word and with spiritual songs, we help each other to grow stronger in the knowledge of Jesus, who He is and what He has done for us. This fellowship amongst believers is brought about by the work of God in our hearts and minds which changes us from the inside out.

With our salvation, we have a new God given desire to build up one another in the knowledge of Jesus and what He has done for us. This is part of God's process of spiritual growth, which is carried out in all believers. This work of God is done in order to prepare each of us to spread the Gospel message. Moreover, because of our salvation, we also have a supernatural peace given to us through the Holy Spirit, as He indwells the hearts of all believers. This supernatural peace is a fruit of the spirit and is part of those things which make up the evidences of our salvation. This is a God given peace knowing that no matter what we face today, our eternity is secure in the arms of Christ. This is part of the rest and security, we have because of our faith in Jesus. In addition, God gives us a heart for those who are lost, because we can never forget Hell is real. And those who do not know Jesus will spend eternity in torment and suffering. Knowing this we can never stop caring about the spiritual condition of those around us. Therefore it's important to understand that our love for Christ is to be evident in our actions and deeds before it's ever proclaimed by our spoken words.
