Old Testament
God Promises He Will Shield Us and We Shall Rejoice - (Psalm 5:11-12)

Bible Promise
I bless My righteous ones and shield them with My favor.

Bible Verse
But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Reading Notes
Jesus is our shield of Salvation! We have been blessed with His righteousness which was imputed or freely given to us because of our faith in Him. Because of God's mercy and grace, Jesus first loved us and took upon Himself the penalty for our sins. Because of His love for us and our faith in Him, we become children of God and inherit eternity in His presence. Therefore, we place our trust in Jesus alone and His atoning work on the Cross of Calvary. And when we do that, when we place our trust in Jesus by faith alone and commit ourselves into His care, something amazing and joyous happens. We are transformed by the Holy Spirit who takes up residence within us and begins His work of sanctification. It's the process of sanctification which changes us from the inside out; in order that we may become more Christ like.

Sanctification is God's process of spiritual growth carried out in us by the Holy Spirit. Prior to our salvation, our spirit was dead in trespasses and sins, and with our faith in Christ, we receive a new spirit which is alive to God. In addition, we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who walks with us from the moment of our salvation till we go home to be with the Lord. Therefore, because of God's great mercy and grace toward us, we shall rejoice in the one whom we have placed our trust, that is, we rejoice in Christ Jesus our Lord! And because we have done so, He will defend us and He will keep us secure, because God's word promises us, Jesus will not lose any whom the Father has given Him. This doesn't mean we won't go through trials. Trials are necessary for our spiritual growth in preparation for service to God; however, it does mean God will sustain us through our trials and protect the eternity we have in Christ Jesus our Lord, through faith alone.
