God is Our Shield, Blessed Our Those Who Trust in Him - (Psalm 84:11-12)

Daily Praise
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You.

Reading Notes
Here the psalmist paints the picture that God is not only our sun, sustaining His life within us, but He is also the light by which we walk. This song was sung by those making the annual pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem to worship the Lord. As the psalmist implies in these passages, God's word is the source of light on the path we follow, and He is our source of life, by which we live our lives. The psalmist proclaimed in the previous passages, "a day in the courts of the Lord is better than a thousand years elsewhere." This is because the Lord is our shield and we know from scripture, that only those things which God allows into our lives can touch us. This promise is also echoed in New Testament passages such as chapter twenty-eight of Romans, which tells us, "God will work all things for our good according to His purposes."

Therefore, blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, blessed are those who have placed their faith in Jesus, because He has restored our relationship with God. In addition, because of what Jesus did for us, we have God's glorious grace which overshadows all that we do. Because it is through His grace given freely to us, because of our faith in Jesus, that we have been given assurance of where we will spend eternity. It is because of God's grace given to us by faith, that we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who changes our lives from the inside out. And because of Jesus we know God has not withheld His mercy and He has not withheld the riches of His grace and forgiveness. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit, now gives us assurance that God will not withhold any good thing He has planned for us as we walk in His will. And because of this, those who place their trust in the Lord and not in this world our blessed indeed.
