The Book of Psalms
Through the Psalms
Old Testament
There is More Joy in the Presence of God than Anywhere Else - (Psalm 84:9-10)

Daily Praise
O God, behold our shield, and look upon the face of Your anointed. For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Reading Notes
Here in these passages the psalmist shows us the true heart of a worshiper of God, the true desire of the heart of a person who loves the Lord. He says that one day just being in the presences of God performing one of the lowest, most menial tasks is better than a thousand years dwelling in one the highest places the wicked have to offer. This psalm was in reference to travelers heading to Jerusalem for the annual feasts. For Israel during this time, the Temple was the place where God dwelt with His people. And in these passages the psalmist is telling us that it is better to dwell with the Lord and to serve Him, than to live in the lavish tents of the wicked. Dear follower of Christ this is what the world has lost sight of today in these dark times.

Moreover, the thoughts conveyed in these passages should represent the heart's desire for all of those who follow Jesus. We should long for the day when we go home to see Jesus face to face. As children of God, we understand that there is nothing Satan or this dark world has to offer that can compare to being in the presence of God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. A persecuted follower of Christ has more joy, peace and hope than anyone living in the pampered wealthiest brought about wickedness. The wicked forget that there is nothing gained here on earth that will compare to the eternity, which awaits us because of our faith in Jesus. And likewise there is no gain in this world that is worth an eternity spent in Hell, forever separated from God. Therefore, we know and praise God for our salvation, and we hold dearly the knowledge that the Lord is our shield. We give glory to God through our faith in Christ and our submission to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
