Guard Your Hearts Against Laziness - (Proverbs 6:6-11)

Daily Wisdom
Go to the ant, you sluggard Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.

Reading Notes
God is warning us here of laziness. All of us have a calling on our life. All of us have God given talents and abilities. God's word tells us that Jesus Himself gives each and every believer a special blending of spiritual gifts, as He places us in the body of Christ which is the church. The Bible tells us we are to use those talents and abilities to not only provide for our needs and the needs of our family; but to also help those less fortunate than ourselves. However, we must remember less fortunate does not necessarily include someone who has the ability to work, but refuses to do so.

Someone in that situation doesn't need a "handout," but rather a "hand-up." And our calling may be to help them begin a life of productivity for themselves and for the Lord. The Bible calls all of us to responsibility, honesty and integrity. To live with humility in our day to day lives. To work in support of ourselves and others is part of honoring God with our lives. To refuse to work because of emotional desires or laziness is at its heart rebellion against God. And that's what laziness is, its rebellion against God because an individual refuses to use his or her God given abilities to work and provide for themselves and their families. Laziness is a purposeful and wanton waste of God's gifts, which are given individually to each and every person.
