The Book of Isaiah
Bible Promises
Old Testament
God Promises He Will Comfort Us - (Isaiah 66:13)

Bible Promise
I will comfort you just like a mother would.

Bible Verse
As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

Reading Notes
Isaiah wrote these verses as God gave him and the people comfort in His promise that He would restore Jerusalem, the Temple and the nation of Israel. God promised them in the latter days He would restore the nation and the people. Moreover, God's super-sign of the last days, was the restoration of the nation of Israel once again to the family of nations.  And we know from other Bible passages that once restored, Israel during the end times, will face the time of Jacob's Trouble. A time of trial and tribulation when the entire world comes against them. However, at the end of that time Israel as a nation will come to faith in Christ. And it's from Jerusalem, Jesus will rule and reign during His Millennial Kingdom.

This promise also applies to us now because of Jesus. For those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we have this promise now because Christ lives in us. Through our faith in Christ, we have a relationship with God the Father. Jesus, because of His work on the Cross of Calvary, has restored our relationship which was broken by Sin. Moreover, we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as a result of that new relationship. And as our Great Comforter the Holy Spirit takes up residence within us changing our hearts from the inside out. We have comfort now as He helps us grow in the knowledge of Christ. We have comfort through trials, knowing our eternity is secure in Christ Jesus our Lord. And through the Holy Spirit, we have been given joy, hope and peace knowing we are not only children of God, adopted into the family of God through faith, but also that we will spend eternity with Jesus our Lord.
