The Book of Job
Bible Promises
Old Testament
God Promises He Will Heal the Wounds of Our Discipline - (Job 5:17-18)

Bible Promise
Do not despise My discipline, for in time, I will heal your wounds.

Bible Verse
Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole.

Reading Notes
Here Eliphaz wrongly assumes that Job has sinned and God is chastening him. However, though he was wrong about Job, nevertheless Eliphaz does speak a divine truth, which is God will sometimes allow the chastening of his children. He will do so at times to save us from an even greater disaster or impending judgment because of our sin. In Job's case he had a deep down feeling of pride and self-righteousness and God used these trials in Job's life to help him see and correct that sin. But it's important to understand it was Satan and the fallen world which brought the calamity and loss upon Job and not God. God does not cause bad things and sin to happen.

God did not create nor bring the trials upon Job. On the contrary Satan's desire was to completely destroy and kill Job. But God intervened and prevented the complete destruction and death of Job. And though God may allow times of trial to touch our lives for His eternal purposes, He is faithful to see us through our trials. And if we experience a time of chastening, God is also faithful to restore those whom He chastens with His love and kindness. Dear believer, understand that through the Holy Spirit our lives are made whole again because of the love of Jesus for us. Our sins, as terrible as they may be, are no match for the blood of Christ. Therefore, through our faith in Jesus, we are washed clean by His sacrifice. By faith we are adopted into the family of God, as children of God and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus our Lord.
