The God of Israel Who is Christ is the Most High Over All the Earth - (Psalm 83:16-18)

Daily Praise
Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O Lord. Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; yes, let them be put to shame and perish, that they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.

Reading Notes
There is only one God, and only one Lord and Savior who is Jesus Christ, there is no other name in Heaven or on earth, by which salvation can or will ever come. There is only one way to spend eternity with God. This means that mankind cannot make their own way with God, nor will anyone ever make their own terms with God, or make their peace with God and come to Him anyway they choose. Either we accept Jesus or we reject Him, there is no middle ground. And that is the thought put forth here by the psalmist who is asking God to defeat His enemies. Not for the sake of their defeat; but that through such defeat, they should come to know that the Lord alone is God. The surrounding nations knew of the true and living God of Israel, and yet they denied Him anyways. They knew what God had done to Egypt, to the kingdoms of Sihon and Og, yet they denied God.

The psalmist in these passages, is calling for the defeat of Israel's enemies for spiritual purposes, that through such a defeat, they would come to know that the God of Israel is the true and living God. We must remember that Israel was called by God to carry out a unique destiny, one that would bless the world. And it's through the nation of Israel that the Messiah came, with the incarnation of Jesus. Moreover, the ultimate purpose of Israel's existence is to bring the light of God to the rest of the gentile world and God has not forgotten His chosen people. During the church age God has grafted us who are believers into the family of God. As Paul says the faithful remnant of Israel is the natural Olive tree, and we are the wild branch grafted in to help spread the Gospel. However, as we have read in the book of Revelation, God will raise up the faithful remnant of Israel to evangelize the world during the end-times. This will be after the church has been taken up to be with the Lord.
