God Promises He Can Restore Lives Lost to Sin - (Matthew 18:19-20)

Bible Promise
If two of you agree in prayer, I will do whatever you ask.

Bible Verse
Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.

Reading Notes
This passage refers back to the section on church discipline and dealing with problems amongst the congregation. It harkens back to the need for two or three witnesses when disciplining any member of the church. In addition, it also alludes to the Jewish tradition which required at least ten men to start a synagogue, or to pray in public. And what Matthew is telling us is that Jesus has promised that even if a small group of Christians gather He is there. If two or three believers are led by the Holy Spirit to agree on a matter, whether it be discipline or any other church matter, Jesus will be there amongst them. And if we trust in God, and rely on the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit, we can reach a divinely inspired decision.

However also wrapped up in this passage is a promise of restoration. It's a promise we can all take hold of as we live our lives and walk with the Lord. Even if we have suffered loss because of our sin or the sin of others, our God is a God of restoration. Jesus can restore lives lost to sin. Jesus can put together families torn apart by sin and the fallen world we live in. People hurt, because of the darkness of this world, can be healed through the blood of Christ. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are given a new spirit, to replace our spirit which was dead due to trespasses and sins. And with the work of God in us, we become a new creation in Christ Jesus our Lord. With our salvation the Holy Spirit takes up residence within our hearts to change us from the inside out. It's through the power of Jesus, governed by the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts and minds that restoration takes place.
