The Wicked Cannot Escape God's Judgment - (Psalm 83:13-15)

Daily Praise
O my God, make them like the whirling dust, like the chaff before the wind as the fire burns the woods, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire, so pursue them with Your tempest, and frighten them with Your storm.

Reading Notes
In this culture of ancient times, having your name remembered was important to the individual. So having your name, "erased like the dust blown into the wind," was a picture of ultimate destruction. Here the psalmist is using several similes to describe the enemy's complete destruction by God. Moreover, these things mentioned cannot be controlled or contained by men and likewise there is nothing wicked men can do to stop the judgment of God. The wicked try to ignore and pretend the sovereignty of God does not matter. However, in doing so, they fail to understand the judgment that awaits them and the destruction they are sowing for themselves, because of their rebellion.

As followers of Jesus, we have to understand that God loves us and is long-suffering in order to give us time for those who do not know Jesus, to come to faith in Christ. And the wicked often mistake God's long-suffering, as blindness on God's part, somehow believing God cannot see their actions, nor know the intention of their heart. However, that is not the case, God not only see's their actions, He looks at the motives and intentions of their hearts. This means if we refuse to heed God's call and continue to rebel against God, He will give us up to our rebellion and bring judgment against us. And when this happens there is nothing we can do to escape the hands of an angry God. Therefore, we must remember all of those who have not placed their faith in Christ alone will face judgment. All of those who have rejected Jesus for salvation are in rebellion against God and therefore recipients of His just condemnation.
