Wicked Rebellion Has Never Won Against God - (Psalm 83:9-12)

Daily Praise
Deal with them as with Midian, as with Sisera, as with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, who perished at En Dor, who became as refuse on the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, "Let us take for ourselves the pastures of God for a possession."

Reading Notes
Here the psalmist is reminding the Lord of some of His famous victories over the enemies of God and Israel. Many of these battles date to the time of the book of Judges. Including Gideon and his victory over the Midianites, Barak and Deborah and their victories over the Canaanites. These were enemies of God who through their council together thought they could defeat the Lord and His people. By human reasoning both the armies of the Midianites and the Canaanites were vastly superior to Israel's army. They outnumbered them and had better weapons; however, what they did not have was God on their side. They rebelled against the true and living God, the God of Israel and as a result, they suffered dramatic defeats by God. In all these situations and battles mentioned, the common theme was the people of Israel had turned their hearts back toward God.

The people of Israel initially had turned away from God. When times were good they would slowly turn away from the Lord and neglect their covenant relationship with God. They would then begin to mingle with the pagan societies around them and rebel against God. And as they did so, they came under oppression by these very same people groups they tried to imitate. After which they would turn back to God, cry out to the Lord, who would raise up a godly leader to turn the people's hearts back to God, and give them a miraculous victory over their enemies. And this principle is still true today, when we turn our hearts back to God, He will give us victory as we walk with Him. We live in what the Bible calls the end-times and as they progress we must understand that the rebellion against God will become worse and worse. However, also fast approaching is the final judgment of God against the wicked in which all those who hate God and deny Christ will be judged. Therefore, we must understand never in the history of mankind have the wicked defeated God! God has always won the battle and the future holds even greater judgment for those who continue to rebel against the Lord.
