Letter to the Romans
Bible Promises
New Testament
God Promises He is For His Children - (Romans 8:31)

Bible Promise
If I am for you, no one can stand against you.

Bible Verse
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Reading Notes
Paul wrote this letter to a church he had never met, but hoped to meet soon. The letter to the Roman Christians was meant to encourage them and give them a solid understanding of the Christian faith. Today we call Paul's letter to the Romans the "flagship" letter of the New Testament because of its complete doctrinal teachings of Christianity. This passage comes just after a section explaining the security we have in Christ Jesus our Lord. Paul added these rhetorical questions in order to help believers understand the spiritual truth that lies beneath.

A better reading of the passage above would be, "Since God is for us, who can be against us?" This was speaking of God's omnipotence, His sovereignty and His omniscience. And since God is in control and our salvation and eternity are secure, what have we to fear? Though they can kill our bodies, still our souls and where we'll spend eternity is secure in Jesus. And since God is in control who can stand against the will of God, who can fight against God? Who can overcome the omnipotent Creator of the universe, who created everything with His spoken word? If God has secured us, and He is for us, who are we to fear?
