The Book of Isaiah
Bible Promises
Old Testament
God Promises He Gives Strength to the Weak and Helps the Weary - (Isaiah 40:28-29)

Bible Promise
I give power to the exhausted and I strengthen the weak.

Bible Verse
The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.

Reading Notes
Here Isaiah is asking a rhetorical question about the attributes of God. In case we in our weakness forget our God is everlasting. He is the Creator of the universe and He does not faint or get weary; therefore He is more than capable of meeting the needs of His children. These passages were written to the people of Israel to give them hope after suffering the Babylonian invasion and deportation of the best and brightest people of the land. The people were tired, weak and afraid. God was therefore reminding the people that He alone is their source of strength. The people had forgotten God, they were God's people and they had abandoned the Lord and as a result God brought about judgment after they had purposely refused His many warnings.

Isaiah is now reminding the people that God had not forgotten about them and that our God is the Creator of all things! He never sleeps, He never tires and He never stops loving us. Therefore God wants and expects us to turn to Him in times of weakness and when trials hit our lives. Even when we bring those trials upon ourselves, because of our rebellion, God is there, waiting for us to turn back toward Him. We have to remember our strength comes from God, so to our intellect and our ability to carry on in the face of trials. Therefore, when we are weak, when we are in need of strength we can call out to Him and He will strengthen us. Because to us, those whom He has given eternal life, we are His children because of our faith in Christ. Despite our trials, God will not abandon us. And if God has given us eternal life, will He not also see us through until we go to be home with Him.
