Give Attention to God's Word and the Holy Spirit - (Proverbs 4:1-2)

Daily Wisdom
Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.

Reading Notes
God has given us His Word for wisdom. He has written His law upon our hearts for understanding and given us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit for guidance. The Lord has given all of us what we need to have a close relationship with Him and to walk close by His side. This proverb takes on the form of a father passing down godly wisdom to his sons. That this wisdom did not start, nor come from him, but came from God. Just as his father passed down the importance of knowing God's word to him, so to this father is passing down that same advice to his sons. That advice is to know and understand God's word which is the Bible. The Bible often uses the phrase "wisdom begins with fear of the Lord."

The word "fear" used in this context means to have a deep down love, awe and respect for God. In addition, the Biblical truth implied here, is that all wisdom is based on sound doctrine and sound teaching from the word of God. God has given us what we need in His word and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Which means by faith we are to turn to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we live our day to day lives. Therefore, it's up to us not to grieve the Holy Spirit, by resisting His work and direction in our lives, but rather we are to rely on Him to build our relationship with Jesus stronger. We are to rely more and more on His guidance and prompting in our day to day lives. This work of the Holy Spirit is in turn strengthened and deepened by our study of God's word, the Bible.
