The Book of Psalms
Through the Psalms
Old Testament
If We Repent and Turn to God He is Faithful to Forgive - (Psalm 80:16-19)

Daily Praise
It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.  Then we will not turn back from You; revive us, and we will call upon Your name. Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved.

Reading Notes
There is an important concept discussed here, one which we have seen displayed by David, who refused to lift his hand against Saul one of God's anointed and chosen men. That concept is honoring God, by honoring His people and let God handle the chastisement. This would mean, that even though God had removed His hand of protection from the Israelites, they were still God's chosen people. The Gentile nations should have feared the Lord and not attacked them. They should have been more humane in their treatment of God's people. Instead the Gentile nations in their rebellion and hatred for God, attacked His people and tried to destroy them from the land. These actions against God's people resulted in God bringing judgment on the Gentiles because of their rebellion and hatred of God.

Also in these passages we see a call to the "son of man." In this context, it directly refers to the nation of Israel, to the people of Israel as God's chosen people. However, in a secondary context, it may refer to the Davidic kingdom to come and the rule of the Messiah. Because we see here an allusion to the future restoration of Israel and a time when the nation as a whole will call on the name of the Lord and be saved. The reign of David was the great golden age in Israel's history, and is the primary reference for the coming age of the Messiah and Jesus' one thousand year reign. Moreover, we know elsewhere in the Bible that the nation of Israel during the end-times just before the return of Christ and His one thousand year reign, will as a whole, come to faith in Jesus and be the faithful remnant spoken of in the Bible. In addition, within the New Testament itself, we see one of the many names for Jesus is the "Son of Man."
