The Book of Psalms
Bible Promises
Old Testament
God Promises He Is Sovereign and In Control - (Psalm 47:7-9)

Bible Promise
I rule the earth and all the kings belong to Me.

Bible Verse
For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne. The princes of the people have gathered together, The people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.

Reading Notes
This psalm was a song of celebration sung by the people praising God's sovereign control over the nations, and thanking Him for His care of the nation of Israel. God is sovereign, which means God is ultimately in control. Even though for now Satan is having his run of influence on this world, causing chaos and rebellion, God is ultimately in control. Moreover, Satan knows what the end holds for him, and that's why his only goal is to draw as many people away from the Lord as he can. Satan knows how the story ends and he knows he has lost, he knows that he will spend eternity isolated and punished in the "Lake of Fire." Therefore, his only goal is to take as many people with him as possible, by turning hearts away from God. However, because of God's sovereignty, we know even those in rebellion, can only function within the permissive will of God. But there is coming a day when God's long-suffering and patience will come to an end. And all acts of rebellion, evil and oppression will cease and those who commit them will be judged and forever isolated in Hell.

This psalm is looking forward to that time, a time after the end of this current age, which we call the church age. This psalm is looking forward to the time of the Messianic Kingdom when Jesus Himself will rule and reign from Jerusalem. Jesus will reign supreme. A time when there will no longer be any other power or authority on earth other than that of Christ. This is a time, when the rule of men and nations will forever end. This is the period of time just before eternity begins and it will last one thousand years. This is the last period of time, during human history, where unsaved people will be born to mankind. For those who know Christ now, the Millennial Kingdom represents where our eternity begins, and it's a time when only the will of Jesus is reigning over this world. And it's at this time, those rulers called "princes" here in these passages, those appointed by God, will gather in Jerusalem to praise and honor Jesus our King. However, until that time comes God has given us His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells all those who have given their lives and hearts to Christ Jesus our Lord. The Holy Spirit gives us each encouragement, guidance and understanding as we grow in grace and the understanding of Jesus and who He is, through the study of God's word.
