God Will Always Restore His People - (Psalm 79:11-13)

Daily Praise
Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of Your power. Preserve those who are appointed to die; and return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom their reproach with which they have reproached You, O Lord. So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, will give You thanks forever; we will show forth Your praise to all generations.

Reading Notes
God will always restore those who belong to Him. Though He may let us go through trials because of our sin, or to build our faith strong, or to prove to ourselves and the world that our faith is a true faith. He will always return us back to Himself. He is faithful to restore those who love Him and are called according to his purposes. Here the Israelites are appealing to God to restore them. They feel the sentence of death on them, because God has abandoned them due to their sin and idolatry. The abandoned God, they chased after the idols of the surrounding people groups and they chased after the things of the world in order to fulfill the desires of their hearts. The nation as a whole not only abandoned God, as a people they did what they could to push God out of society and His word, the scriptures, from in front of the people.

Therefore, God gave them what they asked for. He left them to their own desires, and removed His hedge of protection from the people. Now the nations they so desired to follow have attacked them and destroyed them. Now they are asking God to restore their relationship with Him, and rescue them. They have been chastised and disciplined by God, with their own sin and rebellion and now they see how far they have fallen from God. Sin is turning away from God and that's what the Israelites had done. They turned away from God and rejected His love toward them. God, then removed His hand of protection and judgment came because of their sin. As a result of the judgment, they repented and turned back toward God. The phrase "sevenfold" was a Jewish idiom which meant complete judgment. Judgment due the Gentiles because of their reproach of God. All of God's children were meant to praise and worship Him! We were created especially for this purpose. And the people here are appealing to God's knowledge of that by telling God that His rescue will be something that the people will forever praise Him.
