Completely Floored!
From Elayne Simione:  REPLY
We are in the process of renovating our home. I love the look of Mexican tile but my husband is trying to convince me to lay marble flooring throughout our entire house. I would love to hear feedback from people who have either type of flooring. They both seem to require a level of maintenance higher than the tile I currently have. All replies are welcome. Thanks!

Beach Bride
From Bobbie Woodward:  REPLY
I am planning my wedding ceremony and a short reception (passed hors d'oeuvres and champagne) on the beach, but the South Beach scene is not our style. Can anyone recommend a beautiful public beach in Broward or Palm Beach County or a private venue on a beach with an outdoor deck large enough to accommodate 50 guests? The vibe is beachy-elegant, the guests will mostly be in their mid-to-late 40s. Thanks!

A Weight Off My Mind
From Anonymous:  REPLY
I would like to get feedback on HCG injections for weight loss. Is this an effective treatment? Also, what weight loss centers should I look into? All advice is welcome.

In Need of a Hand

Life's a Beach

Whether you enjoy crowds or seclusion, sun bathing or water sports, here are a few suggestions that will help you find a spot of sand that's just right for the beach-goer in you!

Jupiter's beautiful beachfront Dubois Park is the perfect place for any nature lover to spend the day with young children. The water in the lagoon is so shallow you can bring a chair and sit in it while observing the abundance of hermit crabs that are sure to thrill any child.

Hundreds of locals and tourists visit daily to wade in the shallow waters surrounding the island. The island offers boat slips available for day use and picnic pavilions open to the public. While you're there, check out a walking tour and visit the Kennedy Bunker located on the island.

Located in North Palm Beach and nestled on a barrier island, this is the perfect place for the active beach-goer. Snorkel in the clear blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean or explore the other side of the park which sits in the urban estuary of Lake Worth Lagoon and Intracoastal Waterway, where you can kayak, canoe, go on short trails and visit the Nature Center.

Ranked as one of Florida's Best Beaches by Fodor's, this beach not only boasts clear beautiful waters and a 990-foot pier perfect for strolling and fishing but four-legged family members are also welcome!

Don't Sweat It
From Anonymous:  REPLY
I am postmenopausal and for the past four years have begun sweating profusely around the head, face and back of my neck. It happens when I'm anxious, excited or in the heat. I tried changing medications and that hasn't worked. My physician does not believe that it is related to the medicine I am taking and has suggested that I see an endocrinologist. Has anyone ever experienced these symptoms? I'd love to hear about your experience.

Destined for Destin
From Maggie Cruz:  REPLY
I am planning a family trip to Destin in August and would like to find a three bedroom/two bath beachfront house to rent. It would be for three to four nights. If you know of anything, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

Transportation Troubles

I am going on a trip next month and am in need of reliable transportation to the Miami airport. If you have any recommendations for companies that offer this service, I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

Siesta Time
From Michelle Earle:  REPLY
My family and I are visiting Siesta Key for spring break in April. Does anyone have suggestions on activities or places to stay? Thanks!

Here Comes the Sun!

At the beach or just out-and-about, it takes only 15 minutes of unprotected exposure to the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays to damage your skin. The ever-changing FDA guidelines and the myriad of available sunscreen options canmake protecting ourselves overwhelming. If you're hoping to find that elusive waterproof sunblock with SPF 100+, don't waste valuable shopping time. The new highest available SPF will be 50+ and sun care products are now all about the labels; there's no such thing as "sunblock," only "sunscreen" and ~ unless you are wearing a wetsuit ~ "waterproof" is now "water-resistant". We asked Palm Beach dermatologist Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera to help us navigate the process (and the sunscreen aisle).

Tips on Picking and Applying Sunscreen

  • Try to put on sunscreen before you go outside to get full protection. And remember to reapply every two hours, more frequently if you are in water.
  • Always use a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) 30 or higher. The higher the SPF number, the higher the protection.
  • Use a water-based sunscreen if you have oily skin or are prone to acne.
  • Look for a water resistant brand if you will be sweating or swimming.
  • Buy a non-stinging product or one specifically formulated for your face.
  • Buy a brand that does not contain para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) if you are sensitive to that ingredient.
  • Avoid using sunscreen on babies younger than six months-use hats, clothing and shade for protection.
  • Think about using cosmetics that contain sunscreen. Even these should be at least SPF 15.
  • Choose a broad spectrum of products that guard against the sun's ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.

Dr. Aguilara's Top Sunscreen Picks

  • Glytone SPF 40: An oil-free, PABA free, fragrance free sunscreen built in a base of hyalurenic acid which nourishes the skin and builds a natural moisture level.
  • SkinCeutical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50: A weightless 100% physical, water-resistant sunscreen. This light sunscreen enhances your natural skin tone and boosts daily radiance.
  • ColorScience Sunforgetable Brush SPF 50: A self dispensing mineral powder that can be easily applied or reapplied throughout the day.
