Last month, our social calendars were filled with graduation parties, weddings, barbecues and celebrations from Cinco de Mayo to Memorial Day. While it seems like the last few months were a non-stop party, it's summer, and you know what that means - the party continues! If you've been keeping up with JAB the last few weeks, you are now well-versed in wines and meats perfect for pairing at your fabulous poolside fetes and scrumptious recipes sure to make any event you host a success. This week, with the help of fellow JABBERS, we're answering one of the most important questions when it comes to parties - what to wear! Whether you are sending or receiving an invitation with a specific dress code that may not seem readily obvious, read on to help you and your guests "crack the code."

Have a great and stylish week and Happy JABBING!

Sleepless Nights
From Anonymous:  REPLY
My four-and-a-half-year-old daughter has been having trouble sleeping for years. The issues she initially exhibited have changed over the years from trouble at bed time (screaming for hours) to waking up multiple times in the middle of the night. She does initially fall asleep in her own bed but often wakes up very early in the night before we're asleep and insists on sleeping on the floor in our room. The situation is now completely disruptive to our whole family since she refuses to sleep alone and we have no privacy or space from her. We have taken her to a child psychologist who labeled her with major separation anxiety. The therapist suggested she sleep on our floor (despite my objection) so that everyone can get more rest, but I am concerned that we are exacerbating the situation by encouraging her habits. Have you ever dealt with anything like this? If so, is there another therapist or healthcare professional I should speak with? Your suggestions and advice are desperately needed. Thank you!

Decoding the Dress Code

From Team JAB

When the dress code on your next invitation reads Street Chic, Formal Garden or Dressy Casual (isn't that an oxymoron?), you may find yourself spending as much time trying to interpret the requested attire as you do shopping for the perfect outfit. Certain dress codes mean different things to different people, so here's some insight from JABBERS that may keep you from attending your next formal garden party in a floral patterned floor-length gown!

Glamour in the Garden

Maura McPheeters says, "I was invited to a Formal Garden party in Palm Beach. Having been to a few when I lived in Connecticut, I opted for a beautiful floor-length silk dress with a floral pattern. I learned that evening that each city has their own sense of style. Practically every woman there was wearing a bright Lilly Pulitzer dress. My outfit was a conversation piece among my friends for weeks!"

Glitter in the Air

Valerie Menos says, "When the dress code on the invitation to my friend's formal bachelorette party read, All That Glitters, I instantly assumed it meant a sparkly outfit. I'm happy to say I was correct. Practically every woman there was wearing a dress or top with sequins or sparkling embellishments. While the dress code seemed unusual at first, it ended up making for gorgeous group pictures of all of our girlfriends."

It's a Snap

Ft. Lauderdale JustAskBoo Editor, Rachael Hodyno attended a Snappy Chic Christmas party in Mississippi. "To this day, I have no idea what it means. I wore an adorable 1950s-inspired dress ... and looked like I was in costume among a crowd of dark denim and dressy tops. A failure, but I looked great in pictures."

Forever in Blue Jeans

Laurie Dorfman says, "I attended an event where the suggested dress code was Dolls and Dudes in Denim. While I would normally think this meant denim from head to toe, the event and the venue were more on the chic side, so I opted for merely accessorizing my outfit with a jean jacket. While I was a dressed a bit more casual than a lot of the other women, I definitely got it right by not showing up in jeans and a jean shirt."

Street Sense

Lainey Jordan says, "I was invited to a birthday party where the dress code was Street Chic. I wore a cute dress that I would wear to any other casual party and paired it with some boots to give it an edgier "street" look. This was a popular pairing among most of the guests. It was a great look and a lot more comfortable than the heels I would have normally worn!"
