Gramercy Kitchen & Cocktails will offer a creative yet reasonably priced menu this Valentine's Day.

A Romantic Dinner with Range

By Wini Moranville

I've caught wind of quite a few great menus around town for Valentine's Day, but the one at Gramercy Kitchen & Cocktails caught my eye for its reasonable price and the thoughtful range of options that can please both "keep it simple, please" diners as well as those seeking some creativity on the plate.

The menu ($40 for three courses) kicks off with a choice of coconut shrimp with spicy pineapple remoulade, creamy leek soup with truffle oil, or an arugula salad with apple, goat cheese and candied walnuts.

For the main course, the meat-and-potatoes half of your duo can opt for the prime rib or the grilled pork chop with apple cider reduction, while the more adventuresome one can choose the mahi mahi with saffron nage and eggplant puree. Desserts stay in the classic-romantic vein, with the choice of a chocolate torte with raspberry sauce, vanilla crème brûlée, or chocolate-dipped strawberries.

If you go, I suggest trying to snag one of the curved booths that line the restaurant. I love the way they let you cozy up together--while still keeping an eye on the scene. The cushy seating would be a great place to sip on the featured cocktail that evening: the Lover's Night Martini, with raspberry vodka, lime juice, triple sec, cranberry and Champagne.

Gramercy Kitchen + Cocktails is at 400 Walnut St. For reservations, call 288-9606.
