Ready, set ... QuickConnect tomorrow, Feb. 25

QC
QuickConnect, the Chamber's direct sales opportunity for members, gives participants the opportunity to determine quickly if there is a fit in meeting each others' business or personal consumer needs. It's fun, fast and very effective.

Please note: Two more participants could be accommodated at tomorrow's session (described below) if your space is reserved by 4 p.m. today.  Call the Chamber office at 888-3040 to learn if there is room for a professional from your business or industry type.

The Feb. 25 session will be held at the Dewey's Pizza, 640 N. High St., Worthington, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (Check-in is at 8:15 a.m. Please be sure to arrive by this time so the start of the timed exercise will not be delayed.) Parking is available in the Dewey's lot adjacent to the restaurant.

Registration is required, and commitment to your reservation is important to maintain the correct number and "mix" of contacts for optimum connections. Please register on the Chamber's online Calendar of Events or by calling the Chamber office at 888-3040.

Women's Business Network observes Heart Month with Healthy Mouth/Healthy Heart discussion, screening
WBN logo Join the Women's Business Network of the Chamber in observing National Heart Health Month on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
at J. Liu Restaurant & Bar, 6880 N. High St.

The topic "Say Ahhhhh! The Healthy Heart/Healthy Mouth Connection" explores the link between oral health and heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other major diseases.

The presenter is Barbara McClatchie, D.D.S., an oral systemic health expert and fellow Chamber member.

A graduate of the Pankey Institute and a dentist experienced in mouth restoration, Dr. McClatchie has focused her practice in recent years on "complete dentistry" and partnering with physicians to improve the overall health of patients.

She will review current research linking cardiovascular disease (the No. 1 killer in the United States) and periodontal disease with many common risk factors.  She will explain how oral DNA testing can help identify and direct treatment for oral health problems that cause disease. Optional oral DNA testing will be available following the luncheon.

Luncheon/presentation cost: $22/Chamber members; $27/non-members (guest fee must be pre-paid at time of registration). Support our scholarship fund by making announcements ($5/member; $10/guest) and participating in door prize drawings ($1/member/guest).

Luncheon menu:
  • Tossed garden salad served with Italian and ranch dressings; mixed greens, carrots, Roma tomatoes, red onions and red cabbage with house-made croutons
  • Grilled chicken a la bruschetta: marinated breast of chicken with Roma tomatoes, basil, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic reduction served with spaghetti squash with basil, garlic and extra virgin olive oil, and green beans. Note: This entree is gluten-free. (OR Vegetarian/vegan alternative entree: Pasta primavera: penne pasta with seasonal vegetables with fresh basil, garlic and extra virgin olive oil. Please make your vegetarian request in advance with your registration.)
  • Warm rosemary rolls with butter
  • Coffee, decaffeinated coffee, hot and iced tea

SOHO explores "Taking Sales Savvy to the Next Level"

The Chamber's SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) Group invites you to its monthly meeting

on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 11:30 to 1 p.m.

at the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, 25 W. New England Ave., Suite 100, Worthington 43085

The speaker will be Russ Kromminga, Lake Business Products (chair-elect, Chamber board of trustees), who will lead a discussion on "Taking Your Sales Savvy to the Next Level."*

* Those who attended the November 2013 SOHO meeting to hear Russ Kromminga's presentation "Becoming Sales Savvy" will find this session an excellent follow-up. However, it is not necessary to have attended that session to benefit from this one.

If you work in a home office or "wear all the hats" at a small office with five or fewer employees, the Chamber's Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) subgroup is for you.

At each monthly meeting, members exchange best practices and business leads and learn from experts about topics that affect small business owners and home-based businesses, including legal, tax, organizational, IT and marketing/promotion issues. The 2013-2014 subgroup chair for SOHO is Mark Vaas, independent insurance broker. Diane Kehler, Cartridge World Dublin, will assume the role of chair in April 2014.

Business and Associate Members of the Chamber are eligible to join SOHO. SOHO members pay a subgroup participation fee of $30 per year, in addition to their regular Chamber dues. A prospective SOHO member may attend the meeting free of charge for a one-month period and then may choose sign up for the group with the $30 annual fee.

Registration is REQUIRED. To register, click on the "Register Now' link on the online Calendar of Events and follow the prompts. Select the member category if you are already a paid member of SOHO; the "Join SOHO and attend" category if you are joining the group for the coming year and attending this event; or the "Non-member/Guest" fee to attend this meeting free of charge as a prospective member (you may attend once as a guest). Be sure to click "submit" when completed.

Call 888-3040 for further details or assistance in registering.
