Lunch and Learn offers Technology Petting Zoo to test free library resources on your smart devices
|
Join Chamber members and guests at a Technology Petting Zoo Lunch and Learn on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will be conducted by Worthington Libraries at Old Worthington Library - Community Room 820 High St., Worthington 43085. SOHO members who typically meet on the fourth Thursday will attend this Lunch & Learn as their January topic. If you're the proud owner of an eReader, tablet or smartphone (or if you are contemplating a purchase of one of these devices and want to weigh the options), don't miss this opportunity to learn about apps that help you maximize the library's resources.
Find out how you can access free books, music, movies, magazines and more! Library staff will have a variety of devices on hand to try - or, if you bring your own device, will answer your questions and get you up and running.
From 11:30 to noon, check in, network and mingle with other Chamber members, and enjoy pizza, salad and beverages.
At noon, you'll hear some general information and tips from library staff about choosing and using "smart" devices to read and listen to books and publications (including free titles available through the libraries) and accessing library resources.
From 12:30 to 1 p.m., library staff will handle your questions and device try-outs on a personal, hands-on basis. Try it out ... it's a technology "petting zoo"!
Cost: $15 per person, inclusive of lunch and training
To pre-register for the event (and receive a preprinted name tag and the opportunity to win a door prize), register online through the Chamber's Calendar of Events, or by calling the Chamber at 614-888-3040.

Walking group, weight loss challenge offer continuing opportunities for a Healthy New Year, Worthington!
|
More than 40 area health and fitness companies helped the Chamber and The Shops at Worthington Place ring in the new year on a healthy note at the second annual "Healthy New Year, Worthington!" event, a public Health & Fitness Expo held Jan. 9. Vendors presented exhibits, giveaways, demonstrations and health screenings. Thanks to OhioHealth, the presenting event sponsor, and to corporate sponsors, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, OSU Wexner Medical Center, and Rite for You Corporate Wellness. If you were unable to attend the Expo but want to join in the resolution-setting activities for better health in 2014, there are two opportunities continuing for the next 10 weeks. Chamber members and community residents are invited to sign up for the second annual 10-week community weight-loss challenge, overseen by nutrition experts at RiteforYou Corporate Wellness, and to participate in Monday lunchtime mall-walking activities during those 10 weeks (see photo). RiteforYou, which provides weight-loss and fitness services for individuals and corporations, has created a custom website for the weight loss challenge. Participants who register are provided weekly tips on exercise, fitness and diet and may consult confidentially with the firm's dietitians about customized meal plans and strategies. Registration for the challenge is available on the Chamber's online Calendar of Events or by calling 614-888-3040. The challenge began Jan. 13, but you may join at any time during the 10-week period. For a $5 donation to one of four local nonprofits (the Chamber, Leadership Worthington, Healthy Worthington Resource Center & Food Pantry, and the Worthington Education Foundation), anyone may participate by entering his or her name and weight. The donations will go to the nonprofit with the team that achieves the highest percentage of weight loss. To participate in the Monday noon walking group (see the Chamber's online Calendar of Events for more details), simply show up near the fireplace at The Shops at Worthington Place a few minutes before noon each Monday through March 24. Look for other Chamber members, and plan to "net-walk" (networking as you walk), gaining -- while you are losing -- great connections for 2014.
