Community members lighten up during Chamber-led Healthy New Year, Worthington weight loss challenge
The Chamber is pleased to report the results of the "Healthy New Year, Worthington!" weight loss and wellness challenge, conducted from Jan. 14 - March 25, 2013, and sponsored by The Rite Bite.
Collectively, participants on all four teams - Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Worthington, Worthington Education Foundation and Healthy Worthington Food Pantry & Resource Center - reported a weight loss of 175.4 pounds during the challenge. Many also demonstrated another good health habit by participating in the Monday lunchtime walking sessions at the Shops at Worthington Place.
Those who signed up for the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce team had the highest percentage weight loss overall; the team lost 4.38 percent of its collective weight. The second-place team, Healthy Worthington Resource Center & Food Pantry, had an overall 1.43 percent loss. According to the challenge rules announced at the launch of the event, the Chamber's scholarship fund will benefit from the $5 "entry fees" donated by the participants.
The name of every participant in the challenge who completed weight log-ins on the Rite For You website on a regular basis was entered into a random drawing. The winner is Kara Reuter from Worthington Libraries, who won a one-year membership to The Rite Bite fitness and nutrition center.
The second annual Healthy Worthington Health & Fitness Expo will be held next Jan. 9, 2014, at the Shops at Worthington Place. OhioHealth will be the presenting sponsor. For information on participating as an exhibitor or sponsor, contact the Chamber at (614) 888-3040.

YPoW plans April 12 "Lunch Bunch"
|
Young Professionals of Worthington (YPoW) invites you to lunch with a bunch of other young professionals ages 21-39, who are members of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce. Our group offers opportunities for networking, social interaction, community service and philanthropy, and professional development.
The Lunch Bunch is our most informal activity -- an opportunity to learn about and discuss a topic of mutual interest or expertise from one of our members or an invited speaker.
What to bring: a "brown bag" lunch and beverage from home or your favorite fast food restaurant; your ideas; desire to meet other YPoW participants; and willingness to exchange ideas and business leads.
The Lunch Bunch will convene every other month on the second Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at varying Chamber-member locations.
Our next session, on Friday, April 12, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the offices of Insurance Agencies of Ohio, will focus on making plans for the future.
Mitch Garner, UBS, will lead the discussion on financial planning issues, and Craig Bringman, Craig W. Bringman Co. LPA, on legal issues.
Registration may be made through the website link above or by calling 888-3040.
Are you a potential discussion leader for a future Lunch Bunch? Let us know your topic, qualifying credentials and other pertinent details, so we can schedule you for an upcoming session. Contact YPoW co-chair Katie Berry at 614) 432-1373.

Shred Day helps you Spring-clean office, protect identity, support a clean environment and Chamber scholarships
| Chamber members and the public are invited to participate in a Community Shred Day on Tuesday, April 16, from noon to 4 p.m. in the parking lot at the rear of The Shops at Worthington Place.
Enter the mall parking lot from West Wilson Bridge Road and follow the Shred Day signs.
Clear out old tax files of sensitive information, protect yourself against identify theft, help the environment and support Chamber-sponsored scholarships when you participate by dropping off these types of documents:
Legal documents Receipts Tax and medical records Bank statements and old checks Credit card statements Financial records Insurance documents Any other sensitive paper documents
Don't rely on an inexpensive portable shredder to safely destroy sensitive documents -- or waste hours of repetitive shredding when a single-drop off can rid your office of numerous boxes of documents and free up file space.
This year, "e-waste," or unwanted electronic devices, may be disposed of at the event, in addition to documents. See the Chamber's website (events calendar, April 16 event) for details on the types of devices that will be accepted.
Experienced professionals from Royal Document Destruction will shred your sensitive documents on-site at a mobile shred truck, for your immediate inspection. Each box should be a size that a person of average strength can lift and carry. To prevent sensitive documents from spilling out and blowing away, open boxes or bags are not accepted.
As a "cost" for the service, donations will be accepted for Chamber-sponsored scholarships, which include annual Women's Business Network scholarlships for Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne students, Leadership Worthington class sponsorships, support to the Ohio Business Week Foundation, and training and development benefits for Chamber members. A suggested donation level is $1 per box. Please limit drop-offs to 20 boxes per car.
Royal Document Destruction is a certified AAA National Association of Information Destruction (NAIDŽ) provider for both in-plant and mobile shredding services. the company is a recipient of the Business First "Fast Fifty" award and was recognized as one of the fastest growing private companies in Central Ohio for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Identity theft has become one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States. One of the most effective ways to protect against identity theft is to shred sensitive financial and personal information.
According to the EPA, to make one ton of paper using recycled fiber saves 17 trees, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space, 360 gallons of water, 100 gallons of gasoline, 60 pounds of air pollutants and10,401 kilowatts of electricity. |
