Greetings!                                       March 21, 2013

The weather this week may not reflect it, but Spring has arrived. With it comes a variety of activities for Chamber members as diverse as the colorful blooms we hope to soon see in our gardens and public areas.  With varied options focused on many different member needs, we're not your garden variety Chamber. Some examples:

The Small Office/Home Office subgroup will share "40 Ideas in 40 Minutes" at its next gathering; guests are welcome to try out one meeting at no charge.

The Women's Business Network has two great events planned -- an introduction to the city's new law director on April 9 and a presentation by author Beth Thomas ("Powered by Happy") on May 14.

Young Professionals of Worthington will discuss financial planning for their futures at their April 12 Lunch Bunch.

The Impact Tips group continues to exchange referrals among its regular participants on Thursday mornings and is now joined by a second network referral group, the New Connections Referral Group, which meets Tuesday mornings. Katie Berry of Insurance Agencies of Ohio is the subgroup chair.

The Chamber's next Business After Hours, a QuickConnect session, business book club, Small Business Person of the Year award luncheon, and our biggest fundraiser, Reds, Whites & Desserts, fill out the calendar of upcoming events.

Call 888-3040 for details about these and other opportunities, or check our website calendar for registration links and details. Happy Spring!

Reds, Whites & Desserts is "going green" in '13

Reds, Whites

Enjoy an elegant evening with Chamber members and guests as the Chamber presents its 16th annual Reds, Whites & Desserts event on Friday, April 26, from 7 to 10 p.m.   This year's event has a "Going Green" theme that will be reflected in decor, auction packages, desserts and other event details.

The popular fundraiser is hosted for the third year by Bridgewater Banquet & Conference Center. Other major sponsors of the event are Anthony Lordo, D.D.S., B&C Blacktop Sealing Co. and Worthington Jewelers.

This elegant event offers wine tasting and advice from wine experts, hors d'oeuvres, desserts for sampling and auction, and more than 50 silent auction packages featuring travel, food, wine, fashion, sports, family fun and other themes.

Individual reservations are $55 per person. Cocktail or dressy business attire are appropriate.

Several sponsorship packages are available for the event. All include tickets, and many have reserved seating, program advertising or other promotional opportunities. Call the Chamber at 888-3040 for details. Donations are also sought for auction packages. Contributing products or services from your business is an excellent way to bring exposure to your business and allow prospective customers to try out your services.

For more information about reservations and sponsorships, or to donate an auction item, call 888-3040.

Reservations made be made online at this link to the event sign-up page.

Recognize and reward a fellow business leader
Small Business Person of the Year

Recognize and reward a fellow business leader who demonstrates excellence by nominating him or her for the Chamber's annual Small Business Person of the Year Award.

Initiated in 1987, the award is one of the ways our Chamber demonstrates its support for small businesses and recognizes those who are succeeding, have shown growth and are involved in the betterment of the Worthington community. Click here to view a list of past honorees on the Chamber website.

To be eligible for this honor, candidates must be independently owned, have equity position in the company or be a locally owned franchise. They must have operated their business for at least three years and currently be located in the Chamber's service area.

Candidates must have 50 or fewer employees and have demonstrated community involvement. Those who are nominated must also show examples of successful solutions to business problems, have a reputation for personal integrity and fair business practices, be financially strong and profitable and demonstrate management or product innovation.

Honorees are selected by a committee of past award recipients. The award will be presented at a luncheon on May 23 at The Worthington Inn. Nominations will be accepted through April 5.
