Greetings! Nov. 9, 2012
Join Chamber members at several upcoming networking opportunities ...
A ribbon-cutting for a new restaurant at The Shops at Worthington. An informative luncheon presentation for the Women's Business Network. A Lunch Bunch discussion for Young Professionals, and a Business After Hours honoring elected officials and public servants ....
These are among a host of business-building opportunities for members of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce in the coming days and weeks. Please join us!
Begin by joining Chamber leaders and public officials on Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. to officially welcome Pies & Pints to The Shops at Worthington Place. Pies & Pints, voted among the "Top 20 Pizza Places in America" by Huffington Post, has brought award-winning handcrafted pizza and premium beer to Worthington. The restaurant takes a "foodie's" approach to everything, from its popular grape and gorgonzola pie, house-made dough, slow-roasted pork, to house-made dressings and desserts. Mayor Harvey Minton will officiate at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. You'll enjoy complimentary pizza tastes and an opportunity to show your support for this new business.
The Women's Business Network meets for a luncheon on Tuesday, and Young Professionals of Worthington has a Lunch Bunch gathering on Friday, to offer networking opportunities for subgroups, and has planned a second annual White Elephant Holiday Event. The Small Office/Home Office subgroup has a holiday dinner planned on Nov. 29, and the Impact Tips group continues to meet on Thursday mornings. Watch for news of a new network referral group, the New Connections Referral Group.
Network with others and meet elected officials and public servants at the Nov. 20 Business After Hours at Holiday Inn Columbus-Worthington. New to the Chamber? Join us for our quarterly "Meet the Chamber" orientation breakfast at DeVry University's Polaris campus on Nov. 27. Among those who will attend the new member orientation are a dozen newly recruited businesses who will benefit from Chamber connections. See the article below about the Chamber's Membership Recruitment Rewards Program, launched this week and continuing throughout the coming year.
Finally ... As many of our member companies begin budgeting and scheduling for 2013 activities, it's time to complete our calendar of Business After Hours, Business Before Hours, lunches, QuickConnect sessions, Lunch and Learns, and subgroup events for the coming year. If your company can host an event, please e-mail kevin@worthingtonchamber.org or call us at the Chamber office, 888-3040.
We look forward to helping you make great connections!

Our presentation: "Transitions"
Our speakers: Mary Greenlee and Lorie Copeland from Transition Times, LLC, who will discuss strategies for organizing and compiling the key financial, legal and personal documents needed in an emergency -- or during life transitions, such as sending a child off to college, caring for aging parents, or preparing your family to help you through a major illness.

Build new connections and compete for cash in Chamber's new Membership Referral Program

Build new connections for yourself and others as you help local businesses find a home in the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce during our 2012 Membership Drive ...
As the Chamber continues in its efforts to Build Connections, Build Community, we're seeking your help to recruit new businesses to the Chamber who will benefit from the networking, referrals, advocacy and support for economic development.
A call-a-thon style Membership Drive held Nov. 7-9 served as the kickoff of a year-long incentive program for recruitment with quarterly prizes and a grand prize at the end. Board members, ambassadors and other volunteers have been reaching out to prospective members. Companies who join the Chamber by Nov. 15 will receive a waiver of the $25 one-time processing fee and some special coupons for advertisements.
Please call the Chamber if you know of a business that would benefit from Chamber membership. You will receive credit for each referral who joins due to your recruitment. Throughout the year, we'll keep track of your new recruits, as you compete for quarterly monetary prizes and a year-end grand-prize. Here's how it works:
One card will be recorded for each new member recruited; on Jan. 31 and at the end of all other three-month intervals, a $200 quarterly prize will be awarded to the person who has recruited the most members within that quarter. The award to be given at a BAH or other well-attended chamber event at the end of each quarter.
Quarterly prizes are $200 Visa gift cards from First Place Bank (thank you, mortgage banker Natalie Moore).
To determine the grand prize winner at the end of the year: All cards (from all four quarters are placed in a drawing, and one card is drawn to determine the winner). The prize package will be a large Home Improvement Package consisting of services to be donated (e.g., painting, carpet, new garbage disposal, furnace/AC maintenance package, remodeling or repair services, landscape, home décor, hotel overnight while paint's drying, etc.) The grand prize will be awarded at a Business After Hours.
For more information or to receive information to pass along to your member prospects, call Karen at (614) 888-3040.

Young professionals plan Nov. 16 "Lunch Bunch" and second annual White Elephant holiday event
|
Young Professionals of Worthington (YPoW) invites you to lunch with a bunch of other young professionals, ages 21-39, who are members of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce. The group offers opportunities for networking, social interaction, community service and philanthropy, and professional development.
The Lunch Bunch is an opportunity to learn about and discuss a topic of mutual interest or expertise from one of our members or an invited speaker.
What to bring: a "brown bag" lunch and beverage from home or your favorite fast food restaurant; your ideas; desire to meet other YPoW participants; and willingness to exchange ideas and business leads.
The Lunch Bunch convenes every other month on the second Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at varying Chamber-member locations.
The Nov. 16 presentation is: "Hidden Pathways to Health in an Unhealthy World." Our speakers: Chris Mabry, D.C. and Brian Mabry, D.C., from Ability Chiropractic.
Ability Chiropractic is a place of health and healing dedicated to changing the paradigm for creating health and wellness in Central Ohio. Chris Mabry, D.C. and Brian Mabry, D.C. will be speaking on current ideas in the health care industry, the concept and reality of wellness-based health care, the controversial current state of health and health care, and steps we can all take to attain health and stay healthy.
Bringing a fresh perspective on health care from a chiropractic mindset - that the body is a self-regulating and self-healing organism - Chris and Brian are wellness experts, both educated at The Ohio State University and earning Doctor of Chiropractic degrees from Life University in Marietta, Ga.
Brian Mabry earned the Belief Systems and Performance Award at Life University for outstanding achievement in the area of societal health paradigms and change. Chris Mabry is a Diploma Candidate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and a Candidate for Fellowship in Childhood Neurobehavioral Developmental Disorders.

Promote your business with a donation of a gift card for December BAH fundraising activity
|
In preparation for the Dec. 6 Business After Hours, a Holly Jolly Celebration at Cambria Suites Polaris, the Chamber is seeking donations of gift cards and certificates for a fun- and fund-raising activity that will be part of the holiday BAH. Attendees will participate in a mystery gift card grab-bag activity that supports Chamber scholarships for Leadership Worthington, Women's Business Network, and other Chamber-sponsored local business and school district projects and partnerships. Here's how:
From a line-up of festive gift bags that all look alike, BAH guests may elect to purchase one or more bags for a donation of $20 each. Each will contain a minimum of $25 in gift cards from local and national stores and gift certificates from Chamber members.
Just in time for holiday gift-giving, the gift cards will make great gifts for clients, employees, co-workers and friends, or ways to pamper yourself with services, products and meals during the stressful end-of-year season.
Interested in donating gift cards and certificates to promote your business? Contact Kevin or Karen at (614) 888-3040. (Note: Coupons and certificates that require additional purchase, or include a mandatory sales demo, will not be included.)
