YOU HAVE UNTIL MIDNIGHT 23 MAY TO NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR

The awards are open to all women in Britain who work in the engineering sector, and is being run in partnership with the Women's Engineering Society (WES), key employers and associated organisations.

WES Chief Executive Dawn Bonfield says:
"I encourage you to support this initiative in order to raise the profile of your prominent women members. We need more role models to be visible in order to encourage the next generation and to start to show the diversity in engineering that we are all working towards".

Unless women have been nominated they will not be eligible. The nomination process is easy and you do not need the approval of the person you are nominating. Self nomination is also possible and encouraged.

The hope is that these awards will inspire the next generation of engineers by helping celebrate those currently excelling in the industry. You can be part of that process by making your nomination here by MIDNIGHT ON MONDAY 23 MAY. Further guidance on nominations can be found here.

Calling all engineers to join the Inspiring Women Campaign

The national Inspiring Women campaign launched October 2013 and already has 20,000 amazing women ready to talk with girls in state schools about the 'job they do' and route they took. Our ambition is to see these women from a wide range of occupations going into state schools collectively talking to 500,000 young women. We already have 20,000 women so let's make it 30,000 by 2017.

Win a Lego Mindstorm Education EV3 in the RHUL-EE Launch competition
To celebrate the launch of the new Electronic Engineering department at Royal Holloway University of London, the department is sponsoring the RHUL-EE Launch competition that offers a Lego Mindstorm Education EV3 and a Royal Holloway 'goody bag' for each of the best three smartphone videos of maximum length 3 minutes answering the following question:

'As technology advances we are able improve the quality of our life in many ways.
We may soon see driverless cars on our roads and our own homes can even now become connected homes allowing us to interface with them via our smart phones.
In that new world, how would you like to be connected with your home, and how may being connected with your home improve the quality of life for your family?'

This competition launches on National Women in Engineering Day (23rd June 2016) and is for individuals or groups (only ONE entry per school) aged 14-18. The closing date for entries is 31st December 2016. Winners will be announced on the department's website and winners will be informed individually by the 31st January 2017. Entries to be sent by email to the Head of Department at david.howard@rhul.ac.uk either as an attachment, a YouTube link or a cloud storage link.

Electronic Engineering is Royal Holloway's newest department which will take its first cohort of students in September 2017. Royal Holloway started as an all-women college in 1879 and Electronic Engineering seeks to offer degree programmes that appeal to all. Creativity will be placed at the forefront of teaching through project based learning activities; ingenuity results from applied creativity leading to invention that uses science to provide the tools required to realise a practical result. This is recognised in the subjects required for entry: Maths, any science (with a pass in the lab component) and any other A level.

The Department of Electronic Engineering opens in September 2017 for BEng and MEng degrees in Electronic Engineering with or without a year in industry

Aspire to Engineer

"We are a group of aspiring female engineers running a campaign called "Aspire to Engineer" to promote Engineering as a subject and a career path to the next generation perhaps more importantly to girls.

Giving the confidence to youngsters is key because some believe they are not "smart" enough to be an engineer or it is too difficult. Yes, it is a difficult subject and intelligence is a massive bonus.

However, intelligence is not paramount to becoming an engineer. Great work ethic, never-ending determination with an innovative imagination is what makes a prodigious engineer. We would like to do this by visiting schools, attending talks, partaking in radio interviews and much more!"

For more information contact them by email at: aspire2engineer@gmail.com or via Twitter: @aspire2engineer

NCE100 Awards
