Sponsors sought for interactive Amy Johnson statue

Next year is the 75th anniversary of the tragic and untimely death of Amy Johnson, record breaking pilot of the 1930s and past president of WES. To mark this, a life size interactive bronze statue of the aviatrix has been commissioned. This stunning monument to women, aviation and all those who served with the Air Transport Auxiliary during the Second World War will stand on the Herne Bay seafront looking out to where Amy lost her life.

The Amy Johnson Herne Bay Project is seeking sponsors to help fund this permanent memorial to one of Britain's pioneers of flight.

STEMNET supporting the Little Big Awards

STEMNET is delighted to announce a national partnership with Cisco to extend their Little Big Awards across the UK. The Little Big Awards is a challenge that explores the concept of the 'internet of things' and what is possible when you connect everyday objects like the microwave or your central heating to the internet.

STEMNET would like to invite you to take part in the Little BIG Awards by enabling students aged 11-14 to show us how they think life could be made better by connecting everyday things together. You can get involved by registering your interest in being a mentor via the Little Big Awards website. Or you may already be working with a school / STEM club that you could encourage to take part?

STEM Ambassadors' commitment would be to support a team of 6 students to take part by providing advice and support by email, face to face meetings or video conferencing on a regular basis (weekly or fortnightly).

CISCO will be supporting Regional and National finals and in addition to the main categories and prizes and we expect there will be an additional, separate, prize for innovative use of a BBC micro:bit as part of the project.

To register your interest please go to the Little Big Awards website

We don't like to boast, but we already have some fantastic sponsorship lined up for NWED 2016, with Cummins, NSIRC, Prospects College of Advanced Technology, Sheffield Hallam University, and Yorkshire Water.

We still have room for a few more sponsors though so if your company would like to support this amazing award-winning event - which had a reach of over 1 million people last year via social media, then please get in touch. NWED resource packs will not only carry your 'official sponsor' logo, but will also contain your NWED information and reach out to a huge number of young women across the UK. People Like Me

A new resource pack titled People Like Me has been produced by the WISE Campaign.
Based on the findings of the recent Not for People Like Me report, the People Like Me resource pack employs a new approach that uses girls' natural tendency to create and articulate their self-identity with adjectives to help them see themselves working happily and successfully in science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM).

The resource pack equips teachers and STEM Ambassadors with materials including a quiz that can show girls from a diverse range of backgrounds that, if they continue with at least one STEM subject post-16, they are likely to have better prospects and more career choice.

Why not try the quiz yourself and use it as a different way to engage girls when you are talking to them about your job? People Like Me resources can be downloaded free of charge from here
