Welcome to the September issue of the Sparxx monthly newsletter! 

It's that time of year where after a long and glorious summer, everyone is back at school and college! With a few weeks of the routine, we hope everyone has settled in and is enjoying their new classes. It's also time to start thinking about your future and life beyond school! The Diversity Careers Show 23rd October in London is a great place to find out about the range of careers out there. Don't forget to try out this quirky career quiz from Future Morph if you're still unsure about what to do!

This issue, we bring you our September Sparx of the month, Rachel Hayden whose engineering competition, Building the Future, Shaping our World, has been launched into a global initiative. The 17 year old talked to us about her competition, civil engineering, the Channel Tunnel and Emma Watson and gave some great advice to girls undecided about engineering. Rachel will also be acting as a guest contributor on our Twitter account @sparxxgirls for September, so be sure to keep an eye out for her tweets!

This month we've got a great selection of fun afterschool boredom busters to keep you entertained and CRESTA (Creativity, Engineering, Science, Technology and Art) savvy! 100 Great Geosites Photo Competition

Help create a 2016 #100geosites calendar!
 
Help The Geological Society create their ##100geosites calendar which will feature 12 of their sites, with some background information about them and how to visit.

To enter, send a photograph of any of The Geological Society's recognised 100 geosites. Winning photographs will be featured in the calendar, with full credit. 

In addition, first, second and third prizes will be awarded:
1st prize: £100
2nd prize: £50
3rd prize: £25

All 12 winners will also receive a collection of geological goodies, including our much coveted rock hammer usb sticks, and a year's free subscription to Geoscientist magazine.

Global Female Engineering Competition 2015- Building the Future, Shaping our World

Building the Future, Shaping our World, is a global female engineering competition for 11-18 year olds to promote women in engineering. It is being run by Rachel Hayden a year 12 student from Jersey College for Girls, through the International Women's Academy (IWA). Find out more

Ultimate STEM Challenge
The Ultimate STEM Challenge is a new competition brought to you by BP, the Science Museum and STEMNET.
They are asking teams of two to four students aged 11 to 14 from across the UK to put their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills to the test and win some fantastic prizes, including an invitation to a celebratory event at the Science Museum in London, £500 for their school and Science Museum goodies.
