New Program Has Students Excited About Building Careers

More than 60 students who are in Jim Luckow's Construction class at the JTED @ STAR Academic Center are enjoying the experience of building things while gaining relevant, hands-on skills they'll be able to use for a lifetime.
Sheriff's Donation to JTED Will Continue to Help Keep the Peace

A 2008 Crown Victoria that was headed for retirement will be used to fight crime in a new way thanks to the forward thinking Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos. The Sheriff says he facilitated the donation from the County to JTED's Law, Public Safety and Security program because Pima JTED's programs are an effective way to keep young people from getting into trouble. He also likes the idea of helping students enter law enforcement careers.

JTED Law, Public Safety and Security Instructor Robb Fountain says he plans to use the patrol car to teach high-risk traffic stops and other scenarios.
Entire 2016 Medical Assistant Class Off to College or Careers

Once again, 100% of the students in Pima JTED's Medical Assistant program either entered college or have started work in their profession. This summer, instructor Carla Lopez held a ceremony to celebrate her students' completion of 850 hours of instruction and clinical externships.
Hughes Federal Credit Union Branches Out, Helps Future IT Professionals
Donated Office Equipment from Hughes Federal Credit Union

Rich Griesser, Vice President of Information Technology for Hughes Federal Credit Union, organized the donation of used computer monitors, shuttle PCs, Cisco switches, routers, printers, and other supplies from his employer to Pima JTED's Information Technology program. Once that gift was received, Hughes Federal Credit Union also donated furnishings from one of its branch locations.

JTED IT Instructor, Debbie Anthony, says the gift from Hughes Federal Credit Union will be extremely helpful as the program has greatly expanded in its second year in terms of the number of students it serves. "Not having enough seating for your students may be a good problem to have, but it's still a problem," she says. "We cannot thank Hughes Federal Credit Union enough for their generous donations."
