The Michael J. Hellyer Prize
This prize of £100 in book tokens is awarded annually by the British Association for Canadian Studies at its annual conference for the best paper by an early career scholar. Deadline for applications: 15 March 2013. Full details.

This is an international conference to be held at the UCL Institute of the Americas that aims to revaluate the political career of William Lyon Mackenzie King - Canada's longest serving Prime Minister (1921-1926, 1926-1930, 1935-1948). Mackenzie King occupied the position of Prime Minister for 22 years in all during a period that witnessed the great depression, the Second World War and the onset of the Cold War. He led the Liberal party to a succession of election victories and was in many ways the most successful politician in Canadian history. And yet his career has rarely received the attention that it deserves and he is perhaps better known for his dabbling in the spirit world than he is for his political accomplishments. Read more... ASEN Scholarship
ASEN is pleased to invite applications to the 2013 ASEN Scholarship worth £1000. The application is open to ASEN members currently enrolled in doctoral research at universities in the UK and Ireland and working in the fields of ethnicity and/or nationalism. Applications will be reviewed by a panel and the result will be announced in early July 2013. Deadline for applications 15 March 2013

One-Day Research Seminar, Institute of English Studies (University of London) 3 April 2013 The Seminar's main objective is to advance our group's work in the field of urban literatures and cultures of Canada within the three-year research project The City, Urban Cultures and Sustainable Literatures: Representations of the Anglo-Canadian Post-Metropolis, fully funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology, with the participation of Canadian Literature Scholars from Spain, Canada and the UK. A related aim is to share our work and explore network possibilities with scholars from the British Association for Canadian Studies Literature Group, whom we especially welcome to join us and participate in the discussions. Bourse d'excellence Gaston-Miron
L'Association internationale des études québécoises annonce le concours pour la Bourse d'excellence Gaston-Miron, édition 2013, qui permettra à un jeune chercheur en littérature québécoise provenant de l'extérieur du Québec et du Canada de venir parfaire ses connaissances sur un sujet littéraire québécois pendant quatre mois au Québec. Le comité de sélection donnera priorité, sans toutefois exclure les autres, aux demandes provenant de jeunes chercheurs ayant 6 ans et moins d'expérience.
