Health careers class offers prescription for positive change

Database to benefit foster youth

Children in foster care frequently change residences and school districts. LACOE has developed a countywide database for districts to store and exchange information about students in foster care to help improve their educational outcomes.

Hands-on sessions to focus on LCAP development

LACOE is facilitating a series of meetings for districts to share good practices and receive technical assistance to develop their 2016-19 Local Control and Accountability Plans. The interactive sessions will be held February-March in Downey and in the Antelope Valley.

Ads warn of flood channel dangers

LACOE has launched an education initiative about the dangers local urban rivers and flood control channels pose to students and families. It features public service ads that stations can air during El Niņo weather events.

Calling all certificated educators! 

More than 430 L.A. County schools have applied for the state's Gold Ribbon Award. That means some 300 certificated personnel are needed to serve on teams that validate practices identified in each school's application package.

Local district chosen as model of 21st century learning 

Congratulations to Hacienda La Puente USD and its pre-K program for being selected as an Exemplar of 21st Century Learning. A total of 19 schools and districts nationwide -- seven in California -- have earned this prestigious designation from the Partnership for 21st Century Learning.

Now in its third year, the exemplar program aims to provide educators and communities with models of innovation.
