Throughout 2012, Art21 released over six hours of new video content, which includes: four episodes from Season 6 of the Art in the Twenty-First Century series; over twenty short films from the Exclusive series; and another fifteen films from the New York Close Up series.

With the help of over 400 partners, we celebrated the premiere of our sixth broadcast season by bringing over 800 screenings to communities around the world.

The Art21 Blog, now in its fifth year, published over 500 posts and introduced six new columns throughout the past year. The Art21 Educators program, now in its fourth year, welcomed sixteen energetic and passionate educators into the growing professional development network.

Come 2013, we will be celebrating another number: 100...but more on that in the new year.

We wish everyone in the Art21 community a peaceful and inspiration-filled holiday season and a prosperous new year!

U.S. Department of State Honors Five Art21 Featured Artists
As part of the 50th-anniversary celebration of the U.S. Department of State's Art in Embassies (AIE) program, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton honored five artists--Cai Guo-Qiang, Jeff Koons, Shahzia Sikander, Kiki Smith, and Carrie Mae Weems--by awarding each artist with the U.S. Department of State's inaugural Medal of Arts. The Medal of Arts is given in recognition of each artist's outstanding commitment to the AIE program and international cultural exchange.

Over the last decade, Art21 has worked closely with all five honorees, each of whom has extended their relationship with our organization beyond their initial filming sessions for the Art in the Twenty-First Century series. We have experienced first-hand each artist's passionate commitment to facilitating dialogue through visual art, across many cultures. Through our own international screening programs, we have witnessed conversations generated by the work and words of these artists in communities around the world.

Art21 is proud to support these artists in their commitment to cross-cultural dialogue, and we congratulate each artist for receiving this very special recognition for their efforts from the U.S. Department of State.

"The beauty of painting is that you feel a kinship--for a moment, at least--with the world. You feel a little less alone in the world, which is great."

 Eleanor Antin's Twitter Performance
Last month, we invited artist Eleanor Antin to take over our @Art21 Twitter account. The artist performed a reading from her memoir, Conversations with Stalin, followed by a Q&A session. Audience members were invited to share comments and reactions both during and after the reading.

The entire program has been preserved and can be viewed on Storify.

More than 5 months after its launch, avaf + art21 comboworks continues to generate community contributions.

With avaf + art21 comboworks, anyone can contribute an 'avaf' phrase--or "combo"--to a growing online gallery of submissions, displayed in an 'LED' typeface designed by the artists. Combos submitted through avaf + art21 comboworks will be added to the artists' growing repository of email signatures, and some may possibly be used for future works by the artists.

Visit avaf + art21 comboworks to browse over 250 combos and to create one of your own!
