A Weekly Radio Show that asked 'What is the Recipe for the Future of Food in NYC?"

From mid-September through early November, Food Systems Network NYC and Heritage Radio Network produced a radio series cataloging the triumphs, failings, and outlook for food policy in New York City.

The show, Everything's on the Table, spent eight episodes focusing on various aspects of food policy - including hunger, food waste, education, citizen engagement, and more - and how they could be affected by the new Mayoral administration.

Tove K. Danovich recaps the series.

Read her review and listen to all eight episodes!

The New York City Food Forum, a gathering of food-active organizations across the city that Food Systems Network NYC is a part of, released A Food Primer for Our New Mayor, which outlines steps the next mayor can take towards ending hunger and improving health for all New Yorkers.

The Primer focuses on actions that Mayor-elect de Blasio can take in five food related areas: hunger, healthy food, school food, food economy, and food governance. To read the Primer and see the list of organizational supporters visit: http://www.nycfoodforum.org/a-primer-for-our-new-mayor.

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the most sweeping reform of the nation's food safety laws in more than 70 years, was signed into law by President Obama on January 4, 2011. The FDA proposed new rules that will have a huge impact on how fresh fruits and vegetables are grown and processed in the United States.  This is a very big deal for our regional family farmers and the eaters who love them!

Ed Yowell reports how the FDA's proposed rules will unfairly burden family farmers and how you can take action.

Video: Crafting the Cider Comeback!

At last month's October Open Networking Meeting, FSNYC gathered with Glynwood, Slow Food NYC, and 61 Local to hear from some of New York's apple farmers and hard cider producers.

Missed the event? This video highlights some of what was discussed.
