Food Systems Network NYC 

 
Brings together organizations,
professionals, and community advocates dedicated to nourishing New Yorkers and enriching the regional farm community through collaboration, education, and advocacy.


In general, FSNYC holds Open Networking Meetings once each month. In August, in lieu of an ONM, we're hosting our annual Tomato Fest! Join us on the 18th for tomato-laced cocktails and tastes. Hope to see you there! For more information, email info@foodsystemsnyc.org.

Tomato Fest 2013:

FSNYC's Annual Celebration of the Tomato!

 

What: Tomato-themed Cocktail Party

When: Sunday, August 18, 2013, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Tickets: $50 - FSNYC members*; $55 - non-FSNYC member; $75 ticket + annual membership (includes $5 discount). All proceeds benefit FSNYC.

 

It's back - our annual, sell-out Tomato Fest. This year we're changing it up a bit. Join Food Systems Network NYC for tomato-laced cocktails and tastes to honor the iconic food of the season!  Hosted by The Green Table and FSNYC leadership committee member Mary Cleaver. Tomatoes brought to you by Greenmarket Co. Tempting tomato tastes will be served up by The Green Table, Foragers Table, Runner and Stone, and Suenos NYC. Mixology by Rick Hickman of The Green Table and the beverage team at Parish Hall.  Spirits and libations provided by Brooklyn Brewery, Greenhook Ginsmiths, and Union Mezcal! Space is limited so purchase tickets now!

What a turnout! The Mayoral Candidate Forum on the Future of Food on July 17th attracted over 750 attendees, including representation from 12 co-hosts and 76 partner organizations and groups. Over 1,300 viewers watched the event via livestream. And, the forum's hashtag, #NYCFoodForum, trended nationally on Twitter during the event!

Congressional deliberations over the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly the Food Stamp Program) in the Food & Farm Bill have taken nail-biting turns over the last months. To keep up with developments and keep them in context, New York City Food and Farm Bill Working Group members Ed Yowell and Nadia Johnson have compiled a helpful summary.

Four of New York City's higher education institutions participated in the recent Mayoral Candidate Forum on the Future of Food in NYC. These and other New York City colleges and universities offer students tools for food movement building and advocacy.

We'll be using our Recipe for the Future of Food in NYC to inspire planning, discussion, and advocacy. We're partnering with Heritage Radio Network on an upcoming radio series
featuring a range of perspectives on how the election and a new administration will affect food issues, policies, and programs. Stay tuned for updates on our website, and consider joining our Communications Committee and get involved in shaping this series!

Election season volunteer opportunity! Are you looking for an opportunity to delve into local food policy and support progressive voices? FSNYC has an exciting new opportunity that is ideal for such policy-minded folks. Consider applying for our new volunteer position - Communications & Social Media Volunteer (8-10 hours a week through December; small stipend or internship credit may be available). Interested? Can't dedicate 8-10 hours a week consistently but still want to contribute? Join one of our working subcommittees! Attend an upcoming subcommittee meeting:

Policy Committee
  • Who: professionals, community advocates, and students interested in food policy research, analysis, and advocacy
