What's next for the Recipe for the Future of Food in NYC?

At the April 24th, 2013 Open Networking Meeting, FSNYC members and representatives from other food system communities gathered to discuss the recently released Recipe for the Future of Food in New York City, a working document that outlines key ingredients for improving New York's food system.

Food Systems Network NYC (FSNYC) is soliciting proposals from qualified strategic planning consultants for the preparation of a three-year strategic planning update. We are seeking consultants that have experience with grassroots membership organizations, a basic knowledge of food systems issues, and some familiarity with the food systems landscape in NYC.

Farworker, Glebocki Farms Courtney Dudley for WNYC
Source
wnyc[dot]org

Farm labor has been a divisive issue in New York for more than 20 years, often pitting upstate farmers against largely downstate farmworker advocates.  Every few years, the New York Legislature takes on the issue of farmworker rights.

In a series of articles and Op-Eds, FSNYC is providing history, context, and multiple perspectives on farmworker labor issues.

Julie Suarez
As part of our effort to provide history, context, and multiple perspectives on farmworker labor issues, we have also invited Julie Suarez,  the Director of Public Policy for New York Farm Bureau to share insight on immigration.

New York Farm Bureau's main role is to serve as a voice for New York's family farmers, of all sizes and commodities, to strengthen all of agriculture.  The organization is engaged at the county, state, and national levels, and also has a Foundation for NY Agriculture with a mission of educating the public about the importance of local farms and local foods.
