What is the FSNYC Duck-Off?

It's a duckie cook-off! Guests will "get ducked" on Sunday, March 10th when they taste the ducky creations of a room full of amateur and professional cooks who will prepare their most creative, duck-dominated dishes using ducks from the famous Hudson Valley Duck Farm ---just think of the duck-a-licious possibilities; charcuterie, roasted, smoked, braised.

WANT TO COMPETE IN THE DUCK-OFF?

All professional and amateur chefs are invited!

If you have a killer duck recipe and can't wait to enter this competition click here for more information or email info@foodsystemsnyc.org

Over one hundred attendees gathered at the beautifully rustic Brooklyn Winery on January 23rd to hear what FSNYC's panel of food and farm experts predicted for the coming year - on themes ranging from farm labor and immigration, funding for agricultural research centers, climate change, and land distribution.

Amanda Berhaupt reports on key takeaways from the discussion.

Stay on top of the latest reporting on fracking, and its implications for farming and health.  Kerry Trueman has compiled links a few of the most recent    developments   in our state.   As a ruling could  come  at any time,  staying informed and involved is key and  easy through this compilation.

For many in our state, 2012 was a year of challenges.  New York City and environs suffered Hurricane Sandy, which may have convinced a few more of us about climate change and certainly demonstrated the fragility of our local food distribution systems.  Farmers and ranchers suffered the worst drought in more than half a century and devastating frosts.  They also suffered the 112th Congress, that, for the first time in the 75 year history of the Food and Farm Bill, failed to renew it, letting the 2008 bill lapse in September, 2012.

In the final hours of the 112th Congress, a limited, nine-month extension of the Food and Farm Bill was included as part of a cliffhanger deal.
