professionals, and community advocates dedicated to nourishing New Yorkers and enriching the regional farm community through collaboration, education, and advocacy.

In general, FSNYC holds Open Networking Meetings the second Tuesday of each month. However, there will be no Open Networking Meeting scheduled in December or January. Instead, please attend one of our special events: Food Almanac 2013 (1/23) or NYChiliFest 2013 at The Chelsea Market (1/27). Hope to see you there! Check our website for more details. For more information, email [email protected].

Interested in the future of food and farm policies & politics?
Join us for Food Almanac 2013!

Since 1818, farmers and other individuals have relied on the Almanac's witty and often accurate weather predictions and astronomical data to inform how they harvest, garden, cook and fish. Because FSNYC wants to ensure that our members and friends are properly informed of all things food and farm related in the New Year, we host this great annual event! We should also mention that FSNYC espouses the core values of the publication -sustainable living, simplicity and conservation-in the work that we do.

When:
Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 6:30-9:00pm
Where: Brooklyn Winery, 213 N. 8th St, Brooklyn
Tickets: visit Brown Paper Tickets
Event Features:
  • An esteemed panel of food and farm experts
  • Delicious seasonal fare including hors d'ouvres and simple winter supper prepared by The Cleaver Co. and Brooklyn Winery
  • Spirits (beer and wine) for your enjoyment
  • Pre- and post-session opportunities to network and ask questions about food issues
  • Raffle

Food Almanac 2013 is presented by Food Systems Network NYC (FSNYC), The Cleaver Co. and Brooklyn Winery.

Bill Ayres, WhyHunger Co-Founder and Executive Director

Politicians, pundits and professors have been arguing for decades about who are the "deserving" poor as opposed to the "undeserving" poor.  Almost everyone with any kind of conscience believes that people who suffer from tornados, blizzards, fires and hurricanes such as the recent Hurricane Sandy are deserving of our help. What about months and years from now? Will we still see those who have not recovered from their losses as deserving?

Read Bill Ayres' Op-Ed on the subject.
