FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 1, 2015
This October, join us for fall classics, Corn Harvest and Halloween, plus new events like an adult coloring party and an early morning photo session.
October begins with a beautiful display of rarely seen historic textiles at the Flynn Mansion. Then, on October 3, visit the 1900 Farm to bring in the annual Corn Harvest. Take a peek at a historic snapshot of a Victorian Funeral on October 10 and join in the memorial service. Spend some time de-stressing with our new adult coloring party event, or a photography session at dawn. Our ever popular Family Halloween event wraps up the month, with eight nights of non-scary family fun.
Celebrations of Home: A Historic Textile Exhibition
September 30 - October 4
Enjoy a look at rarely seen historic clothing, handwork and quilts from the nationally recognized Living History Farms textile collection. Colors, patterns, and personal touches served to make even the simplest house a home. Explore how textiles contributed to making homes comfortable, as well as the many ways textiles reflected the ethnic and regional backgrounds of the homemaker. The Flynn Mansion hosts this display of quilts, covers, historic clothing, and household textiles, which is free with regular admission.

Corn Harvest
Saturday, October 3
Visit our historic farms and discover the process of picking corn in the past! Walk into the corn fields and help farm interpreters decide on harvest readiness! Take a horse and wagon ride and view corn picking machinery demonstrations. Help turn the crank on the corn sheller and witness a traditional farm hand's dinner. Demonstrations will be weather and crop dependent.

Victorian Funeral
Saturday, October 10
In 1875, the funeral was a pageant of honored traditions! Families gathered to find joy in a public celebration of a life well lived. At 1:00, join with historic interpreters as they celebrate the life and honor the death of a fictional 1875 Civil War Veteran with a re-created funeral. Visit the Tangen House, prepared with a period style coffin and funeral drapery. Walk in the funeral procession led by a horse-drawn hearse to New Hope Cemetery for a Veterans Memorial service.

Adult Coloring Party: "Get Happy" Hour
Tuesday, October 13
4:30-7:00pm
Need to de-stress and unplug for a moment? Experts say that coloring books give adult minds a way to relax and unwind. Fall is the perfect time for tea and baked treats. Join us for both at a relaxing "Get Happy" adults-only coloring book party in the Flynn Mansion! Enjoy hot or cold tea and fall munchies while coloring in historically inspired mandalas, Victorian fashion plates, and architectural detail designs. Guests will relax and socialize at small tea tables placed throughout the first floor of the Flynn Mansion and have an opportunity to explore the house. Guests must pre-register but may arrive and depart at any time during program hours.
